Lana z Caplan


Lana Z Caplan is a multimedia artist who has done extensive work with historic photographic processes, video, film and interactive media installations. Her work has been exhibited and screened in solo and group exhibitions in cities around the world in cities such as Beijing, New York, San Francisco, San Juan, Edinburgh, Mexico City, Philadelphia, Boston, Manitoba, New Delphi, Tel Aviv, Valparaiso, and Barcelona.

Caplan’s various technical approaches in her work are unified by her thematic concerns, which revolve exploring the cultural effects of environmental change, challenges and gaps in cross-cultural communication, and the construction and deconstruction of narrative form and the immateriality of the post-internet digital image.Interaction with the audience is often an important component in the completion of the work. She has utilized motion sensors and interactive computer software to control video playback, used sound installations and wallpapered galleries with images to fabricate environments for experiential works.

Caplan’s work is represented in the collections of the Boston Public Library, the Boston Anthenaeum, the William Benton Museum, and Simmons College.
