Julia von Metzsch - Beach Painting

On View: March 28 - April 26, 2025
Reception: Saturday, March 29, 2 - 4pm

This show is accompanied by a select group of works on paper.

“Beach painting is quite literally about painting on the beach. It is physically more demanding than another type of landscape painting in which I try to get the right scene while in the confines of rocks and trees. It is more of a haul but conceptually very freeing to get so close to the water and paint the wave as the sea crushes sand and moves boulders. I find myself, again, painting a part of the landscape which is fleeting and constantly changing.” - Julia von Metzsch

Julia von metzsch

Julia von Metzsch offers a body of work that is vigorous and distinctive. Her paintings are primarily seascapes done on site from Massachusetts’ north shore. Islands, trees, and rocks all come in and out of view, but what is most mysterious is the atmosphere and movement von Metzsch is able to capture.

Von Metzsch received her BA in 2007 and Masters in 2010 in Fine Arts from Boston University, and then returned to Boston University as a MFA Painting Fellow at the School of Visual Arts. von Metzsch is in the collection of Danforth Art.
