Lorie
Hamermesh's most recent exhibition (October, 2000) introduced
a new working method. Her complex paintings of layered painted
and printed fabrics and paper are now veiled by a translucent
scrim, a sheer fabric onto which she has stenciled, stitched,
and printed with an Iris jet printer. The resulting object
captures light beneath its veil, whose imagery floats above
the painted ground. Writing about the show in Art in America,
Ann Wilson Lloyd said, "The success of all Hamermesh's
new works resides in their complex evocation of wistful dreams
and elusive memories."
